Ash End House Farm

The Rawlings family have provided an excellent 'farm experience', to local people and schools for many years and in order to enhance a day out during poor weather wanted to include an indoor play area and with that a new catering facility.

Roland Allen designed and installed a new straight line servery to include the cold food offer displays and all the beverage equipment also a back bar preparation and cooking area with refrigerated storage.

The finished result is a bright and functional facility to match the play area and provide a comfortable food area for both parents and children.

Vanstone Garden Centre

The existing restaurant servery ( installed by Roland Allen some 25 years ago ) was now looking a little jaded and in need of an update and Roland Allen were instructed to provide some new ideas to the management at Vanstone. Various options were presented and finalised in consultation with the client approving the plan drawing and 3d visualisation.

The old servery was dismantled and removed from site, new flooring laid, new electrical services provided, a sweeping new servery installed with two back service areas, a free-form shape illuminated canopy and a walkway was created for staff access.

The bright new restaurant now provides both 'coffee and cake' or a full meal to it's customers throughout the year.

Testimonial from Giles Groom

“Throughout the process from preliminary discussions on design of our new restaurant to implementation, Linsay Garfitt’s (Roland Allen) project management was very impressive. The restaurant was finished in a very tight timeframe and changes to budget/costs were explained and agreed throughout the process. We would certainly employ Roland Allen for any future catering projects.

Ashridge Golf Club

When Ashridge Golf Club commissioned a brand new bespoke club house to match its National Trust surroundings Roland Allen were commissioned to design and install a new commercial kitchen complete with server areas. The kitchen has a niche style with each department having its own area from stores to prep sandwiches and snacks in each main cooking and server. The server y is granite topped to match the club house finish. The project was completed on time and within budget.

Testimonial from Martin Silver Club Manager Ashridge Golf Club

“Roland Allen designed and installed an excellent kitchen facility with full liaision with the club management, catering staff and architect, and have also provided us with a range of services and equipment over several years”

Frances Bacon School

Working with the team at Francis Bacon School they wanted to provide a teaching facility that would reflect a commercial kitchen rather than a row of domestic appliances from the old domestic science days.

Roland Allen provided a double island of both gas and electric oven ranges with worktops and a perimeter run of preparation sinks and worktops, the air in and air out ventilation system provides a comfortable and safe environment this was also designed and installed as a bespoke unit for the school.

An excellent result was achieved working with the school and the builders on site to give the students a great opportunity to learn in a controlled but 'commercial' kitchen.

St Anne's Church Hall

The brief from the client was to provide a catering facility in the new extension for the use of the church groups and outside caterers for a variety of functions for the benefit of the community.

There were various ‘building’ challenges to overcome with regard to the site with gas and electric meters being in awkward places however these were resolved working with the architect and with the team of Ladies involved at the church.

The finished result is a small and functional kitchen with gas and electric cooking, storage and preparation that the parishioners can be proud of.

Oaklands College

Roland Allen working in conjunction with Pro-Care Builders. The brief from Oaklands College was to transform an existing first floor computer science laboratory into a (commercial kitchen/classroom) for up to 30 students. The kitchen was designed by Roland Allen with gas and electric cooking stations, combi ovens, fryers and grills. There are teaching stations at each end of a 10metre island with banks of prep space and sinks to each side. Directly below this teaching kitchen is another teaching kitchen which doubles as a lunch time bistro for students and staff as well as a training capacity for evening functions. The whole project was completed on time and within budget and recently hosted the Junior Masterchef.

Hermitage

Testimonial from James Nye, Managing Director Anglian Country Inns “ I am writing to express how pleased I am with the work that Roland Allen carried out for me at our new site Hermitage Bar & Restaurant. With a challenging brief, the project was handled very carefully and professionally from start to finish. Being a first floor location and also having to make the aesthetics match the decor, these issues were overcome with smart thinking and intuitive answers. All in all, the project was handled exceptionally well and I am very pleased with Roland Allen’s attitude and results”

The Blue Orchid

The Bull Inn

Working directly with the clients John and Julia Roland Allen created a simple but workable pub kitchen in a very compact space with excellent end results. Testimonial from Jon & Julia Brooke Proprietors The Bull Inn “Should Julia and I undertake another re-development that involved kitchen planning starting with a blank piece of paper, we would not hesitate to come to Roland Allen first for advice and a plan, in fact I seem to recall that you gave us some good pointers when we first came here with the old smaller kitchen”

The Fox

Working under the supervision of Anglian Country Inns and the chefs with their specific needs and requirements Roland Allen designed and installed a full commercial kitchen which provides a fine dining experience to its clientele.

The Malaysian Restaurant

The owner Jon Yong commissioned Roland Allen to design and install a commercial kitchen on this very challenging site with a very low ceiling and to create the ventilation for their specific cooking style. As the ceiling was extremely low the kitchen floor had to be dug down to 300mm (1 foot) to enable the correct ventilation height to be fitted. It was at this point that a 16th century (protected) well was discovered at the centre of the kitchen which created yet another challenge to overcome. Jon was delighted with the overall outcome once all of the obstacles had been dealt with.

Harrods Food Hall

The client in conjunction with Harrods commissioned Roland Allen to design a new ‘Dim Sum’ bar in the main food court in one of the worlds most prestigious stores. Working with the client and architect we came up with a layout for an island providing two dim sum cooker/steamers, refrigerated and ambient storage and a cold drinks display. There is also a kitchen area to the rear with storage cooking and wash up facilities in a very tight space.

The whole project was a challenge working to Harrods specifications for stainless steel water pipes and copper waste to name but two. The work was also carried out over 10 nights during the stores closed hours with a multitude of trade on site at the same time. The end result provided superb food for the discerning Harrods clientele.

Testimonial from Kevin Nolan Headmaster

“I thought you might like to know that the kitchen is a huge hit with everyone. The kitchen staff are very pleased with everything and everyone is delighted with the food they are producing. Some members of staff are now having school lunches. I’d like to thank you for all of your work and for your help and advice. We really appreciate it”.
